We all have those days. Days where you just can’t get motivated to move. You have good intentions to stick to that early morning workout, but you find yourself making every excuse to get out of it. So how can you counter these moments so that you can stay on track and crush those workout goals? How do you keep that workout motivation going? I’m sharing some ways that I push back against an unmotivated mindset so that I can keep moving.
Modify your workout
So maybe you planned to tackle a CrossFit inspired AM workout. Squats, push-ups, lunges galore. But now that you are gearing up to get going, you’re feeling a little less than inspired. Instead of turning in the towel before you start, why not just make a few adjustments?
Instead of doing sets of 20, do sets of 15, or even 10. Maybe forget the lunges for today and add in some ab work. Point being, it’s better to do something rather than nothing. Make your workout a little less daunting and you can still log today as a win.
Change it up
Ever find yourself getting a little bored with your workout? I know that in order to keep myself interested, I need to be constantly changing things up. In fact, I try to do something different with every workout.
Right now, I have a rotation of running, CrossFit and yoga workouts. And in addition to keeping it fresh, the variety allows my body to recover better in between workouts. I’ve even switched up workouts right in the middle of an activity. Warm-up with a yoga flow and then maybe progress into more of a CrossFit style workout.
You just have to find the right workout mix for you. If you’re wondering what that is, check out my post here.
Find a workout buddy
Sometimes all we need is a little motivational push from a friend. And working out with someone else can help turn the grind of a workout into something a lot more fun. You and a friend can help hold each other accountable as well as motivate each other to reach individual goals.
Make plans to meet up for a morning run or hike or sign up for a spin class together. You can sweat your way through the workout and then grab a healthy breakfast after. Quality time with a friend as well is a bit of self-care on it’s own, its a win-win.
Get the right gear
Having the right workout gear can really make a difference in your motivation to get out there and sweat. Whether its feeling fabulous in some new workout clothes or just having the right piece of tech, the right training accessories can really make a difference in both your motivation and progress.
I know I feel much better with quality apparel and the right technology. These items can both help motivate me to keep moving, as well as give me data about my progress. Everyone is different, so take some time and do your research on what might help you personally stay on track and enjoy your workouts.

So there ya go, a few ways that I personally find motivation to keep going and crush those goals. Everyone will be motivated in different ways, find what works for you and keep at it. You will make progress, you will improve. Just keep going, you are not alone. Aloha!
