Ever since welcoming our Rhodesian Ridgeback Aza into our family 2.5 years ago, Running has become a larger part of my fitness routine. Ridgebacks are one of those dog breeds that requires daily exercise. Well, every pup should be getting some sort of daily exercise but let’s just say if he didn’t, he might take his energy out elsewhere, like our furniture or household goods. So, for his health and sanity as well as our own, we knew we needed to be able to commit to exercising him. A great way to meet this daily active requirement has been in the form of an early morning run. Not only has this been great for the puppy, but for me as well! In addition, this routine has helped renew a long lost love of running I once had.
As I’ve now been running more regularly, I’ve had time to collect a few pieces of running gear that make the daily grind that much more pleasant. I’m excited to share my favorites!
Saucony Kinvara 9
Ok, I waited a long time before I invested in some new running shoes. My previous pair were Brooks and offered some great support for my rather short stride length. But they felt kinda bulky to me and I wanted something a bit more streamlined and much lighter. I tried on these Saucony Kinvaras at a local running shop and fell in love! They are super comfy and I liked the more muted look to the color and design.
Fitbit Flex 2
The Fitbit Flex 2 is a more minimal take on a fitness tracker. I wanted something that would help keep me accountable to my fitness goals but not feel like a Smartphone attached to my wrist. The Fitbit Flex 2 will track your steps and workout activity as well as reveal your sleep patterns. You can manage your diet and water intake and set up notifications to help you stay on track. I also love how you can set up your Flex 2 to vibrate when your phone receives a call or text. Super handy if your phone is in a bag or not visible to you at the time. I also love the different kinds of bands you can get for this tracker, you can even thrown it in a necklace!
Bose SoundSport Wireless Headphones
My husband gifted me these for my birthday and I absolutely love them! I had been using a super old pair of ear buds forever and when I first listen to music through these I couldn’t believe the quality! It was like I was hearing for the first time, lol! These headphones are also incredibly comfortable! They sort of “click” into your ear and stay put no matter how fast I’m running. They may seem like a bit of a splurge, but being able to lose yourself in the music while you run is a huge motivator! The quality is that good!
Amphipod Airflow Microstretch Belt
This is another running accessory that I went much too long without. I used to just stuff my phone in whatever tiny pocket I could find and depending on what I was wearing, sometimes I had to resort to just holding it, which is not ideal, especially when running with a dog! This belt is super minimal and believe it or not can fit my Galaxy Samsung 7 Edge, which is a pretty large phone. It’s lightweight and stays in place while running. Sometimes I even use it while hiking for easy access to my phone.
So there are a few of my running must haves. Do you have any favorite running or workout gear? If so, share in the comments. I’m always looking to add to my collection. Aloha!
