I have been wanting to try out Amazon’s new “Try before you buy” service called Prime Wardrobe for a while now. I am a very active Amazon Prime shopper (as many people are) and the thought of a risk-free way to try-on items is very alluring, especially living in Hawaii where some items are hard to find locally.
What to buy?!
I wanted to have a solid and practical excuse to give it a try as well, so when I wasn’t able to find a pair of CrossFit shoes locally, I thought “bingo” let’s see what options they have on Amazon. Low and behold there were some CrossFit shoe options that qualified for Prime Wardrobe! Because you see, not everything just automatically qualifies for Prime Wardrobe. More on that in a bit.
I ended up finding 2 pairs of shoes and a workout tank. You must select at least 3 items (and up to 8) in order to ship. I placed my order on Friday, July 6th and I received an email that my order had shipped the following Wednesday, so it took 5 days to process the order. The box was then delivered to my door two days later on the 13th. Not too bad.
Once your order is delivered, you have 7 days to try on items and decide what you want to keep and what you want to return. Everything in my order arrived as expected so I tried everything on and quickly made my choices. Next, I headed over to my Amazon account and pulled up my Prime Wardrobe order. You can also find a handy link in the delivery notification email Amazon sends.
Next, select what you want to keep and what you want to return and check-out like you normally would. It’s really that simple.
Now all you need to do is put the items you are returning back in the packaging they came in and throw everything in the original shipping box. It has an adhesive strip on the inside as well as an included prepaid shipping label, so it is super easy to box back up. All that’s left is just a simple run to UPS to drop off the box and you’re done!
I decided to go with one pair of shoes and to return the other pair as well as the tank top. The tank top, for instance, was way too small, so I was happy I was able to return it. And all I needed was one pair of shoes and luckily I liked the less expensive of the two best, lol!
Overall I was pleased with my first Amazon Prime Wardrobe order. I will definitely be doing it again. Here is my personal breakdown of the pros and cons of the service.
Pros
- Included prepaid shipping label and adhesive strip on the box. Super easy to ship back.
- Fast arrival after shipping.
- Easy steps to check-out, just mark “keep” or “return” and check out like you normally would.
Cons
- Processing time took a little longer than expected, 5 days.
- Searching for Amazon Prime Wardrobe items can be a bit cumbersome. For example, an item might be listed as eligible but when you update the size, it no longer is.
Have you tried Prime Wardrobe yet? If so, what did you think? Aloha!

July 27, 2018 at 1:51 PMWhat a great idea! It’s so hard to buy things online without knowing if the sizing will be right, so this is a great service. I’d buy more like this knowing if it isn’t right I’m not stuck with it.
