Beachy Post Modern: Living Room Tour

Beachy Post Modern: Living Room Tour

How do you sum up your home style? Are you modern, eclectic, or maybe more traditional? If I had to define my home decor taste I would have to say it falls somewhere in the realm of post modern and beach chic. I love light colored walls and beadboard paneling but also dig 1960’s styling with clean lines and poppy colors. So for today’s post I thought I would share a room that I think encompasses both post modern and beach chic styling. Welcome to our living room.

I find that I gravitate towards clean, bright spaces that are infused with eclectic art and sentimental family pieces. You can see here that there is a bit of a balancing act going on. It’s clean without feeling sterile and homey without feeling cluttered. Since this is one of two living room areas in the house, I felt that with this space we could refine the area a bit. I wanted it comfy but to also have a “front sitting room” sort of feel, this is probably the most formal area in our home.

Beachy Post Modern Living Room

When we first purchased this house the previous owners had installed carpet in this area. That was one immediate change we wanted to make. We installed a thick, distressed, wood laminate. It has a sort of rustic quality to it that I love. It has now been over two years since we installed it and it’s holding up great!

Another piece that works well in the space is my grandfather’s old record player. Not only does it hold sentimental value, but it fits in perfect with everything else. Now to just get it working again. 🙂

So what do you think? Would you call this room “Beachy Post Modern”? What’s your home style? What’s your favorite space in your home and why? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Aloha!

I love a bit of an eclectic look, but I can’t handle it in my own home, ha! Ours is a work in progress but it’s definitely leaning towards more of a hamptons style. 🙂
