Thank you First Alert for sponsoring this post. Help protect your home and family with voice and location alarms from First Alert!

Life is busy. With careers, family, school and a variety of intersecting activity, the days are packed with places to go and things to do. I am always on the lookout for ways to simplify life and maximize the safety and wellness of my family. So when I come across a product that aligns with that ideal, I’m a happy camper.

It’s easy with our busy lives to get distracted and overlook simple but significant aspects of how you can protect your home and family. I think one thing that people sometimes overlook is how important it is to have quality working alarms in your home. We may abstractly think that home fires are rare but did you know that the U.S. Fire Department responds to a fire every 24 seconds? And that 3 of every 5 home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no working alarms? (Source: National Fire Protection Association)

Protecting Your Home and Family

I am passionate about being proactive and mitigating any safety risk that might affect my family. And installing alarms in our home has been a really simple and easy way to help protect our family in case of an emergency. The alarms that we installed in our home are the First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Alarms with Voice Location Technology. These alarms go beyond what is expected from a home smoke and carbon monoxide alarm with some pretty cool technology. If activated, these alarms will actually indicate the location and nature of the threat.

First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Kit

Studies show that voice and location technology helps wake up children if there is an emergency in the home. Voice alarms woke up 86 to 91% of children, allowing 84 to 86% to successfully escape within five minutes of the alarm’s onset. Whereas only 53% of kids woke up to a standard alarm with only 51% escaping. (Source: Journal of Pediatrics, 2018)

And with a 10-year sealed battery, you can protect your home for a full decade! Save money by not having to replace the battery for the life of the alarm and avoid that annoying low-battery chirp (we’ve all been there!) This is exactly what I mean by simplifying life and maximizing the safety and wellness of my family.

Easy to Install

The First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Alarms with Voice Location Technology are super easy to install. It is recommended that an alarm is installed on every floor and in every bedroom of your home. You can place the alarm on the ceiling or on the wall providing it is no more than 12 inches from the ceiling. Once you click the alarm into the mounting bracket, you are prompted to set the location of the alarm. It literally took less than 5 minutes to install.

Installing First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm

Remember to test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly and replace batteries every six months or upgrade to 10-year sealed battery alarms to eliminate the need for battery replacements for the life of the alarm. And because alarms don’t last forever, remember to replace them at least every 10 years.

We have one like this and I love it, except when the battery is low and it yells “Fire!” at us in the middle of the night hahaha

Oh my, that could be scary! Do you have to replace the battery often? That’s what I love about these 10-year battery alarms, you don’t have to deal with it as often.

Great reminder, and looks like a great alarm! We have one that our super put up recently with a 10-year battery, which is awesome! But I feel like we need more, it’s a tiny 1 bedroom apartment but maybe we should have one in each room.

Ok, having a talking alarm would have helped us so much: One time the alarm went off at our house (must have been because the batteries were almost dead). We couldn’t make it go off – then it turns out the carbon monoxide alarm, not the fire alarm, was the one going off! Safety is so important – thanks for sharing this post.

Yes!! We had a rogue alarm once when we lived in a townhome with super high ceilings. Caught the husband doing some sort of crazy circus trick stacking chairs trying to reach it, lol!
